Sikh clergy tells CM, Makkar to meet Prez to save Rajoana
The Sikh high priests today issued directions to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar to meet President Pratibha Patil and make efforts to save Balwant Singh Rajoana, convict in former CM Beant Singh’s assassination, from the gallows.
Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh made this announcement after receiving suggestions from various Panthic, social and political organisations throughout the day and subsequently deliberating on them during a meeting of the Sikh clergy.
The Jathedar asked the CM and the SGPC president to take all possible measures to get Rajoana released without any condition. He also asked them to make the President aware about the "injustice being meted out to the Sikhs".

PIL in court to save Rajoana
A human rights organisation wants to save Balwant Singh from the gallows. For, the purpose, its relying on a legal proposition that Balwant Singh should not be led to the gibbet till the appeal in the Punjab's former Chief Minister Beant Singh's assassination case is pending before the Supreme Court.
Lawyers For Human Rights International, through counsel Navkiran Singh, today filed a petition in public interest in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking a stay on the hanging.
In the PIL, Lawyers For Human Rights International president Tejinder Singh Sudan has argued that the judgment.

Sikh clergy calls meeting of all outfits on March 23
In a significant move, the Sikh high priests today called an emergency meeting of all religious, social and political organisations on March 23 to evolve a consensus on how to save former Chief Minister Beant Singh’s assassin Balwant Singh Rajoana from gallows.
Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh announced the decision after a meeting of the Sikh clergy at the Akal Takht Secretariat here today.

Hang Beant killer, says Chandigarh court
After the Patiala Central Jail authorities returned the execution warrants to hang Beant Singh assassin Balwant Singh, a Chandigarh court today resent his warrants to the jail, stating that Balwant be hanged on March 31 itself as the order to execute his hanging has been upheld by the High Court.
The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Shalini Nagpal today resent the execution warrants to Patiala jail to hang Balwant Singh on March 31 at 9 am. The same orders were earlier sent on March 10.

Akal Takht Jathedar tells Rajoana to appeal against death sentence
Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh along with Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Tarlochan Singh today met Balwant Singh Rajoana, who is on death row in the Beant Singh assassination case, at Patiala Central Jail.
Gurbachan Singh asked Rajoana to reconsider the issue of filing a petition against the death penalty. The meeting lasted for about half-an-hour.
Kamaldeep Kaur, Rajoana’s foster sister, who was also present, said Rajoana had told Gurbachan Singh that he would not file any appeal. Gurbachan Singh presented two bottles of water taken from the Golden Temple sarovar to Rajoana.

Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoanna's execution by hanging has been set for March 31st, 2012 for his alleged association with Shaheed Bhai Dilawar Singh Babbar and Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara who were responsible for bringing the ex-Punjab Chief Minister Beant Sinh to justice, on August 31st, 1995.
