Youth Rapes Friend In Punjab, Arrested (Bathinda)


In yet another rape case, a youth raped his friend in Bhatinda on Monday.

The youth, Harpreet called his friend up late in the evening on Monday and insisted her to go out to have water-balls (gol gappe) with him.

Being friend the victim girl agreed and went to meet him along with a friend of her.

With a pretext of dropping the girls off to home on motocycle, Harpreet took them to a gym where he locked the victim girl inside a room and raped her.

14th Vidhan Sabha came into being today with all MLAs, barring one, present to take the oath of allegiance to the Constitution as a legislator on the opening day of the Budget Session.

Starting with the leader of the House, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, and followed by Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, the session saw the entire Punjab Cabinet take oath, but not before newly named Congress Legislative Party leader Sunil Jakhar was called to take oath.

Bus operators to hold protest from tomorrow

The owners of the buses running under the km-scheme of the PRTC have decided not to ply buses for three days from March 19 in protest against the PRTC management for not releasing their payments.

Baljeet Singh, state president of the PRTC Km-scheme Bus Owners' Union, said that a few owners of the km-scheme buses had already sold their vehicles and many others were looking for suitable deals so that they could get rid of their buses due to financial crisis

Over 6,000 adults to take learner’s assessment exam on March 18


As many as 6,686 persons enrolled under the Saakshar Bharat Mission of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, will appear for the learner’s assessment exam to be held on March 18.

These 6,686 learners include illiterate villagers in the age group of 15 years and above who have never been to school and had been educated under this programme which began in the district in July last year.
In all the eight blocks of this district, adult education centres have been opened wherein trained volunteers are imparting education to the illiterate.

The District Education Officer (Secondary) would conduct the examination on March 18. The teachers of primary schools will take the exam in the villages where there is no middle, high or senior secondary school.

Lt Col’s wife found murdered in Amritsar


Vineeta (28), wife of a serving Lieutenant Colonel with the 65th field battalion of the Army, Santosh Wankhede, was found murdered at Manekshaw enclave, inhabited by Army officers on Ram Tirath Road here today.

She was alone with her two-year-old daughter Bindu, who was sleeping in the adjoining room, at the time of the murder. The incident came to light when her maid servant arrived at the house in the morning. She was strangled to death with a room heater wire, which was found near the body.
